Russia launched a wave of overnight air strikes across Ukraine on Thursday, killing at least 13 people, including one in Kyiv.
In the attacks that reached as far as the western city of Lviv, prompted neighbouring Poland to scramble fighter jets to secure its airspace.Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned about the ballistic missiles heading towards the capital and urged residents to take shelter.
Explosions were then heard in Kyiv, according to a Reuters witness.
In the western city of Lviv, local officials said two apartment buildings were damaged and six people were injured.The attacks also inflicted heavy casualties elsewhere in the country.
Six people, including two children, were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions, while in Zelenskyy's hometown of Kryvyi Rih, six more people lost their lives after what local officials said was a direct strike by a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile.Among those killed in Kryvyi Rih were two girls aged 5 and 12.
