The South African Institute of Auctioneers (SAIA) has again been recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as the country’s sole professional body tasked with upholding nationally accepted standards of competence for auctioneers.
This renewed accreditation acknowledged the institute’s vital role in ensuring that its members possess the necessary knowledge to conduct auctions fairly, in strict accordance with legislation, and in line with industry best practices. Crucially, the recognition validates SAIA’s professional designations, educational programmes, continuous professional development (CPD), and code of ethics as central pillars of the auctioneering sector.
Detailing the broader impact of the decision, SAIA's Chief Operations Officer, Sonja Styger, said professional bodies play a critical role across all industries in safeguarding professional integrity. They achieve this by setting competency standards, promoting lifelong learning, establishing codes of ethics, and providing independent oversight to ensure practitioners remain accountable.
"Their purpose is to support professionals and protect the public by ensuring that those carrying professional designations meet recognised standards of knowledge and conduct," Ms Styger explained.
