NewsRestaurantsPolice are investigating six diners at The Oyster Shack in Bigbury, Devon, who allegedly dashed off in a black Range Rover without paying a bill of nearly £60018:51, 29 Jul 2026Updated 18:52, 29 Jul 2026A group of six diners tucked into their meals at a seafood restaurant before allegedly slipping away without settling a bill of almost £600.‌Police are investigating the customers of The Oyster Shack in Bigbury, Devon, who are claimed to have dashed off in a black Range Rover last Saturday and the restaurant has heard nothing from them since.‌There was a party of three men and three women who ordered four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter before heading out one by one without settling their bill, said the restaurant.‌The group accumulated a tab of almost £600 before fleeing and since then The Oyster Shack says it has made repeated attempts to reach the diners on the contact number provided at the time of booking, according to Devon Live.And the restaurant's owner stated in an update on Wednesday that the group has yet to make contact and they have left the matter now with the police.Kieron Vanstone, owner of The Oyster Shack, said: "We've given them a deadline for response but they're still dodging our calls. We have left the matter with the police."‌While also on Facebook the restaurant stated: "For a small independent restaurant like ours, this isn’t just a financial loss, it’s incredibly upsetting for our staff, who worked hard to provide a warm welcome, only to have their trust abused."We’re sharing this not to shame anyone, but to warn other restaurants, pubs and local businesses to stay vigilant if they encounter a similar group."While the restaurant's CCTV system was unfortunately out of action at the time, a fellow diner managed to note down the registration plate of the black Range Rover the group is believed to have departed in, and all available information has since been handed over to the authorities.Article continues belowA spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that they were looking into the incident and they have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.The statement read: "Police are aware of an incident where a number of customers left The Oyster Shack, Bigbury, without paying their bill on Saturday 25 July."Enquiries into this matter are ongoing.
