July 29 (UPI) -- South Korean boy band BTS is withdrawing itself from consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards.
The K-pop superstars announced on their personal Instagram accounts Wednesday that they will not submit their new music, the comeback album Arirang, for Grammys consideration.
"We have decided not submit for Grammy consideration this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank Army and everyone who has always stood by us," the posts read.Screenshot via rkive/Instagram Stories
The statement follows news the Recording Academy will establish five new award categories at the 2027 Grammys, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance. The category is meant to recognize "artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages."
