Some 80% of all bicycle frames are manufactured in Asia

Bicycle manufacturers in the EU have been seeing a steady decline in bicycle sales since 2022, according to an annual report published by the trade association European Cycling Industries (ECI) on Wednesday.

Over the past three years, demand for mechanical and electric bikes combined have fallen by 22.5%, with just over 15 million sold in 2025 against 20 million in 2022.

Meanwhile domestic production hit its lowest level in 22 years, with just over 10 million machines hitting the market, Paul Walsh, the ECI’s CEO said “demand stabilizes”.

Following the brief sales boom during the pandemic, the sector experienced a sharp decline, which ECI believes is now beginning to stabilise.
