The Telangana government has approved a revised ₹368-crore Package-I for major traffic improvement works at the NFCL and TV9 junctions in Banjara Hills by reallocating ₹158 crore from the proposed Wipro Junction grade separator project, which has been dropped from Package-II.The decision ratifies action already taken by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to redesign the projects based on updated traffic studies and technical reviews aimed at creating a conflict-free corridor between NFCL Junction and Allwyn Cross Roads, an order posted on Wednesday says.The revised Package-I includes a two-lane unidirectional flyover from Banjara Hills Road No. 3 towards GVK Mall at NFCL Junction at a cost of ₹147 crore, a three-lane unidirectional flyover from Mugdha Junction towards NFCL Junction on Banjara Hills Road No. 3 costing ₹221 crore, and a two-lane unidirectional underpass from NFCL Junction towards Srinagar Colony. The total project cost has increased from the earlier sanctioned ₹210 crore to ₹368 crore, necessitating an additional ₹158 crore.To fund the additional expenditure without increasing the overall H-CITI allocation, the government has approved dropping the ₹158-crore Wipro Junction multi-level grade separator from Package-II. The savings will be diverted to the revised Package-I while the remaining Package-II works at IIIT Junction, Khajaguda Junction and two road widening projects will continue, reducing the package cost from ₹907 crore to ₹749 crore.The government has also permitted the construction of the flyovers using structural steel instead of the earlier design, approved changing the project location description from Jubilee Hills to Banjara Hills wherever applicable, and authorised the GHMC to invite tenders under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
