Officers initially received a concern for safety report for a pedestrian who was seen on the carriageway.Further reports then indicated that "several vehicles" had collided with the pedestrian before officers arrived to the scene. A marked police car was then reported to have collided with the same pedestrian when arriving at the location of the incident.The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to identify them and inform their next of kin, North Wales Live reports.A statement shared by Carmarthen, Whitland and St Clears Police, part of Dyfed-Powys Police, explained that the stretch of the A40 between the two roundabouts will remain closed "for a lengthy period of time today [Wednesday] while officers remain at the scene".The statement added: "We would therefore ask motorists to please avoid the area and find alternative routes."No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, the force said. Due to the multi-vehicle crash also involving a police car, the force made a mandatory referral to the police watchdog, the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).This is a statutory requirement in relation to incidents of this kind to ensure independent oversight. The force said: "It would be inappropriate for us to comment further until the IOPC has completed their assessment."Article continues belowAnyone who may have information about this incident, including motorists who were driving on the A40 at the time, are asked to contact the police. This particularly applies to those who have dash cam footage from around the time of the incident.Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information regarding this road traffic collision.
