A major incident has been declared after a bus crashed near a busy roundabout in Wales - leaving nearly 20 people injured.The crash occurred on the A484 near a roundabout in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, at around 12.20pm on Tuesday. Images show the bus, which witnesses said is an X11 service, left the road and overturned into a nearby field.Emergency services rushed to the scene this afternoon, including two air ambulances and fire crews from Tumble, Carmarthen and Kidwelly stations. WalesOnline initially reported at least 26 people had been injured. Police confirmed this afternoon 13 casualties were assessed at the scene and a further six people were taken to hospital for further treatment. The A484 is closed from Kidwelly Roundabout to Llandyfaelog and is expected to remain so for some time.The public was asked to avoid the area as emergency service efforts continued. A Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson said in an update: 'The major incident at Kidwelly has now been stood down. All individuals who sought comfort and safety at the centre have now left.'The road will remain closed for collision investigators to carry out their enquiries.'We would like to thank the public for their understanding and patience while emergency services worked together at the scene. We would also like to thank the John Burns Centre in Kidwelly for their support.'First Bus confirmed that one of its X11 buses was involved in the crash.A team from its Ammamford depot travelled to the scene 'to support our driver and look after our customers', Zoe Hands, Managing Director of First Bus Franchising said.She continued: 'The safety of everyone who travels with us is always our absolute priority and we are working with the police and ambulance service to care for those who need it and understand the circumstances which led to this incident.'In the Senedd, Welsh Government minister Heledd Fychan said: 'Members will be aware of a major incident in Kidwelly following a report of a collision involving a bus on A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout. 'Emergency services are on the scene and members of the public are asked to stay away from the area until further notice. 'The Deputy Minister for transport will update the Senedd members accordingly once further information is available.'Local hospitals warned they are 'busy' and patients will face longer wait times as a result of the crash.The Hywel Dda Health Board, which covers the west of Wales including Carmarthenshire, said in a social media post: 'Our teams are responding to the major incident called as a result of the road traffic incident in Kidwelly. 'Our Emergency Departments are busy, and we waiting times are likely to be longer as we treat individuals with the greatest need first.'Thank you for your patience and understanding. 'I would reiterate the official request for the public to stay away and find alternative routes to the Parc y Bocs roundabout to Llandyfaelog Road,' she said.
