FORMER prime minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday called for an immediate end to the ongoing state of emergency (SoE), and in a scathing critique of the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led administration insisted that Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander and Attorney General John Jeremie be fired.In a post to his Facebook page, Rowley accused Persad-Bissessar and her Government of hypocrisy, incompetence and abusing the state of emergency to pursue personal and political agendas.He also responded to Persad-Bissessar's recent comments about racist and bigoted remarks directed at her, recalling that she had previously referred to him as an 'Oreo in the service of the 1%'.He questioned whether she believed such remarks were acceptable when directed at him.Rowley also asked whether the Government was saying that it had jailed citizens without the required evidence.He questioned the Government's motives for attacking citizens.'The Government must end the state of emergency NOW!' Rowley stated.He added, 'The Prime Minister must fire the Minister of Homeland Security and the Attorney General, if she harbours any hope of restoring any respect from the right-thinking citizens.'Rowley asked if the Prime Minister was saying that 'she and her Government, for one whole month, have been on the attack without evidence and could not lay a charge or defend their position of jailing people without charge in our country that this fiasco is now left to some unnamed foreign jurisdiction'.He said if Persad-Bissessar and her Government have evidence of criminal conduct against any citizen, then they must act against such person/s decisively and within the law.'Don't disgrace yourself in discharge of your duty here and when you get exposed you send out a tweet,' Rowley further stated.'Now that the population has been made aware of the recklessness of this administration, which is hiding under a state of emergency in order to abuse the machinery of the State as they try to settle personal and political scores against citizens, one would expect that a government so exposed and disgraced will humble itself as the people directly responsible are held to account,' he stated.Rowley continued: 'Instead we have the absentee Prime Minister, trying from home to continue to fool the population about waiting on 'foreign jurisdictions'.'Rowley went on to slam Persad-Bissessar over recent statements that the US was helping T&T in the fight against crime as 'downright foolishness'.He said the US has been assisting T&T for decades, but expressed concern over this country's sovereignty at this time.He asked whether 'a foreign country will intervene to save this Government from the people or is it that this Government is feeding lies and entreaties to outsiders inviting them to act against our citizens'.Rowley said for the past month, this country has seen Persad-Bissessar's Government 'in all its nakedness being spiteful, vindictive and incompetent in the extreme'.Rowley finally called on the United National Congress (UNC) administration to 'stop wasting my taxes on lawyers who are laughing at a foolish government that is enriching them whilst misleading the taxpayers'.In response later yesterday, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar dismissed criticism from Rowley, describing him as a 'Facebook troll'.The Prime Minister told the Express yesterday that Rowley was no longer prime minister.'If he wants to end the SoE and fire Minister Alexander and AG Jeremie he can go ahead and do it. I don't know how he will do it but someone should explain to him that he is no longer prime minister and has become what he always complained about, a Facebook troll,' she said.The Prime Minister also expressed confidence in both Jeremie and Alexander.She pointed out that under Alexander and Jeremie, there had been 400 fewer murders in the last 15 months than were projected to occur based on the rates under the PNM.
