BJP retains top posts in MCD Standing Committee as Satya Sharma gets re-elected as chairperson

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Satya Sharma was re-elected unopposed as the chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Standing Committee on Monday, in what will be her second consecutive term at the helm of the civic body’s highest financial decision-making panel. Party colleague Satyapal Singh was also elected unopposed as deputy chairperson after no rival nominations were filed.The BJP, which holds 12 of the Standing Committee’s 18 seats, was the only party to field candidates for the two posts.After the announcement, Ms. Sharma said the committee would provide equal opportunities to councillors from the BJP as well as the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to raise issues. She added that development projects and welfare schemes approved in last year’s budget would be implemented in a time-bound manner.“The committee would work towards fulfilling the commitments made by the BJP during the 2022 MCD elections,” she said.Ms. Sharma added that her priorities would include sanitation, solid waste management, road maintenance, park development and improving civic amenities.
