Nine members of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Standing Committee who completed their one-year term retired on Tuesday after their names were picked in a draw of lots during a meeting presided by panel chairperson Satya Sharma.

The procedure was carried out as per the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act.

The nine retiring members are Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Ankush Narang, Mohammad Aamil Malik and Mohini Jeenwal, and BJP’s Shikha Bhardwaj, Inderjeet Sehrawat, Neema Bhagat, Rajpal Singh, Anju Devi, and Pankaj Luthra. The new members will be elected in the panel’s next meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sharma appreciated the contributions of the retiring members and said that they played an important role in the MCD’s functioning during their tenure.

Meanwhile, AAP alleged that the meeting was conducted in violation of the provisions of the DMC Act, “which states that 72-hour notice should be given”.
