The UK’s nuclear energy renaissance is well under way.
Since the Labour Party was elected in the summer of 2024, one of its key missions has been to bolster the country’s portfolio of nuclear power plants.
Looking across the English Channel, it is not difficult to see the rationale behind this goal.
In France, about 70% of electricity comes from nuclear power. In the UK, that figure is just 15%, according to the World Nuclear Association.
What’s more, most of the country’s existing nuclear capacity is expected to be retired by the end of the decade, with the exception of Sizewell B which has just received a ‘life extension’ of 20 years.
