Safran said it will prioritise the French roadmap going forward
French aerospace company Safran announced on Tuesday that funding for the joint Franco-German fighter jet engine programme will be suspended from September and that it will prioritise the French roadmap for the development of a next-generation fighter jet engine.
Another part of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme is therefore set to come to an end.
The €100 billion project to develop an aerial combat system centred around a next-generation fighter jet went up in flames at the beginning of June when Berlin and Paris decided to part ways on the fighter jet element.
Safran CEO Olivier Andriès said that funding for the joint engine’s development “will be suspended from September” and questioned whether the engine specifications will remain the same on both sides.
