Authorities in Nairobi have arrested 38 pedestrians for failing to use the designated footbridge at the General Motors (GM) crossing along Mombasa Road, as part of an intensified crackdown on jaywalking.

In a statement shared on X, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) said the operation targeted pedestrians who ignored the footbridge and crossed the busy highway.

"Pedestrian enforcement underway at the General Motors (GM) footbridge. A total of 38 pedestrians were arrested yesterday for failing to use the footbridge. They will be charged in court for obstructing the free flow of traffic," the agency said.

The operation is part of a broader multi-agency campaign involving the NTSA, the National Police Service and other road authorities to curb illegal road crossings on Nairobi's major highways.
