Lithuania is ready to send a firefighting team to France as it battles devastating wildfires, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said on Wednesday.
According to the prime minister, a team of 32 firefighters and rescue workers, along with five water tankers, could be deployed if required. Consultations are currently underway with the French authorities on the country's specific assistance needs."If the need is declared, we will contribute with equipment and personnel alongside colleagues from the Fire and Rescue Department," Sinkevičius said.The prime minister said Lithuania aimed to support its partners during crises and expected similar solidarity when it required assistance itself.Since the beginning of the year, approximately 115,000 hectares have been destroyed by wildfires in France.Officials say firefighters are currently battling dozens of forest fires each day, mainly in the country's southwestern and southern regions.
