Detroit-based utility DTE Energy has seen its data center pipeline swell to more than 8GW, on the back of major deals with Google and Oracle.

In its Q2 earnings report, the utility announced that it had secured 2.4GW of executed agreements and identified an additional 5-6GW in its development pipeline.

The 2.4GW is split between two deals with Oracle and Google. The Oracle agreement is for 1.4GW and has received regulatory approval, and construction has begun, with demand expected to ramp in the 2027-2028 timeframe. According to the company, the project will require up to $2 billion in capital investments. The capacity is set to power a planned 1GW data center in Saline Township, which is being developed alongside OpenAI and Related Digital.

The Google deal is for 1GW and has been submitted to the Michigan Public Service Commission for approval, with a decision expected in September 2026. According to DTE, the project could support around $5 billion in incremental capital investment through 2032 to support up to 1.6GW of renewable generation, 480MW of energy storage, and 350MW of demand response. The capacity will power Google's planned data center near Detroit, which was announced in March.
