The scholar transport vehicle involved in a collision on the M7 Road near Katlehong on Wednesday morning.

A 10-seat scholar transport vehicle carrying primary school pupils collided with a light motor vehicle on the M7 Road in the Tsietsi section outside Katlehong, Gauteng, on Wednesday morning, leaving at least 21 children injured, including 19 occupants and two pedestrians.

According to City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi, emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 7am after receiving reports of the crash.

“Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) fire and rescue officers received the call at 06.55 this morning of a scholar transporter involved in a crash and immediately responded out for intervention,” Ntladi said.

He added that two rescue teams from Zonkizizwe and Palm Ridge fire stations were deployed to the scene.
