Ireland's long-standing support for pharmaceutical research and innovation makes it well-positioned to drive progress on Europe's life sciences agenda, industry notes
Czechia expects Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the EU to deliver progress on key health files, with support for innovation topping the list of priorities.
Ireland’s Health Minister pledged to move swiftly on the proposed EU Biotech Act while seeking to balance support for Europe’s pharmaceutical industry with patients’ interests. Dublin also plans to prioritise reforms to clinical trials, alongside work on cardiovascular disease, mental health and the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
Against this backdrop, the Czech Health Ministry hopes Ireland will advance several legislative and policy initiatives that are seen as crucial for both patients and the competitiveness of Europe’s healthcare sector.
“The Ministry expects the Irish presidency above all to make progress on the Biotech Act, the revision of the rules for medical devices, and the continuation of initiatives supporting innovation, competitiveness and access to modern healthcare in the EU,” ministry spokesperson Jana Dobrá told Euractiv.
