The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the kingdom’s air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory toward oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia.
Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, described the attacks as “terrorist acts,” stating that the drones had once again been launched from Iraqi soil by “Iran-affiliated” groups.
He emphasized that Saudi Arabia reserved the legitimate right to defend itself and its resources, adding that Riyadh retained the right to respond to these attacks “at a time and place of its choosing.”
Meanwhile, the Saudi Council of Ministers, at a meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, issued a stern condemnation of drone and missile attacks carried out by Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Yemen targeting oil facilities in the Riyadh and Eastern provinces, as well as commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
According to the official statement released after the meeting, Saudi Arabia would spare no effort in protecting its national security, interests, and capabilities and would deliver a “decisive response” to any act of aggression in accordance with international law.
