The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has won a court case to recover money linked to a R9 million National Lotteries Commission (NLC)
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has won a court case to recover money linked to a R9 million National Lotteries Commission (NLC) grant that was meant to build a sports complex in Protea Glen, Soweto.
The Special Tribunal has declared the grant to the Motheo Sports and Entertainment Foundation unlawful and invalid after finding that the sports complex was never built.
The Tribunal ordered Motheo, former NLC officials, companies and individuals linked to the project to repay R6 million that had already been paid out.
According to the corruption watchdog, the money was misused after it was released by the NLC, while the planned sports complex in Protea Glen was never constructed.
