Merebank Secondary School learners will benefit from a new solar-powered science laboratory designed to keep practical STEM lessons running during power outages.
Nearly 600 learners at Merebank Secondary School in south Durban are set to benefit from a new solar-powered science laboratory designed to ensure practical science lessons continue during power outages.
The solar-powered learning container was handed over to the school on July 24.
The 15kW portable solar container provides a dedicated power supply for the school's science laboratory. Equipped with an integrated UPS, the standalone system is intended to keep science and STEM lessons running even when electricity supply is interrupted.
The installation is expected to support the school's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programme while reducing electricity costs and allowing the laboratory to be used for after-school learning and enrichment programmes.
