The comments come a day after SaharaReporters reported that residents of Owa Onire in Kwara State alleged that traditional rulers in parts of Kwara South were instructed not to receive Sunday Igboho following his recent visit to communities ravaged by armed bandit attacks.
The Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, a community-based organisation in Kwara State, has declared its opposition to the presence of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho’s security outfit, Iru Ekun, in Ilorin, citing concerns over the Yoruba nation agitator’s separatist campaign and what it described as threats to the identity of the Ilorin Emirate.
The position was made known by the foundation’s counsel, Umar Sa’ad Imam, in a video seen by SaharaReporters.
Speaking alongside his colleague, Bolaji Ajasa, Imam stressed that he was not speaking on behalf of the Ilorin Emirate but for the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, whose mandate, according to him, is to preserve the heritage, culture and traditions of the emirate.
“The first thing is that I don’t have the capacity to speak for Ilorin Emirate as a whole. It is the Emir of Ilorin and the people he appointed that have the power to speak for the town,” Imam said.
