The Delhi police on Tuesday apprehended a school bus driver after he allegedly rammed his vehicle into an e-rickshaw near Majlis Park metro station in north-west Delhi, killing a 12-year-old girl travelling in it, a senior police officer said.The police registered a case of rash driving and death by negligence against the 55-year-old driver, Kamal Singh, a resident of Burari. The police also questioned the e-rickshaw driver, Ajay Prasad, 45. Both vehicles have been seized, the officer added.According to the police, they received a PCR call at 7 a.m. regarding an accident involving schoolchildren. The girl had already been taken to a hospital by passers-by.“Priyanshi, a Class VI student, was travelling to school in an e-rickshaw along with four other children, including her sister. When the vehicle reached near Majlis Park metro station, it collided with a school bus, following which she fell from the e-rickshaw and came under the bus,” said Akanksha Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West).“She sustained grievous injuries after coming under the bus. She was rushed to BJRM Hospital, Jahangirpuri, where doctors declared her brought dead. No other child was reported injured in the incident,” she added.Daily commutePriyanshi and her sister Sejal, a Class X student of the same school, had left their home at Rama Garden, Mukundpur, for school at 6.45 a.m. as part of their daily routine. According to relatives, they had been travelling in the same e-rickshaw every day.“The bus driver did not apply the brakes after the collision and ran over her. He was saying the brakes had failed. If that is the case, he should not have driven the bus at all,” a relative of Priyanshi said at the BJRM Hospital mortuary. “The bus also had schoolchildren in it. His carelessness could have resulted in a mishap endangering their lives as well,” he added.The police said a Crime Investigation Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory team inspected the scene of the accident. The deceased’s body has been preserved in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.“A case has been registered at the Adarsh Nagar police station under the appropriate provisions of law.
