The U.S. military on Wednesday said it intercepted several ballistic missiles launched by Iran towards American forces stationed in the Middle East, adding that U.S. troops remain on high alert.In a statement posted on X, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) did not specify the location that was targeted.Earlier, Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that Iran had fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan, but all of them were intercepted before reaching their target.Also read: War? All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted," CENTCOM said.The development comes after President Donald Trump abruptly halted a planned two-week U.S. bombing campaign over the weekend. Trump has said there have been "good talks" with Iran but warned that military strikes could resume if negotiations fail. Tehran, however, has denied that it is seeking to restart talks with Washington.The conflict began on February 28 when the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
