Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha said he held what he described as a "frank conversation" with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Sybiha announced the phone call in a post on X, according to Ukrinform.

"Diplomacy is about direct conversation, even when it’s difficult. I stressed that our goal is to avoid unnecessary escalation," Sybiha said.

He reiterated that all of Ukraine's actions are aimed solely at defending the country against Russian aggression and have never been intended to target civilian vessels or civilians.

Sybiha noted that this also applies to Iran's claims regarding the death of one of its citizens and damage to a civilian vessel in one of the recent incidents.
