The whisky industry overall has hit a rough patch, but there are still plenty of opportunities for well-heeled collectors and aficionados to purchase some rare liquid across all categories. The latest news from this world comes from Scotland’s Ian Macleod Distilleries, which announced the launch of its new Private Client Business offering the chance to purchase some of the rarest casks from its distilleries.
Ian Macleod Distillers is the family-owned company that controls some fantastic distilleries and brands in Scotland, including Rosebank, Tamdhu, Glengoyne, and Laggan Bay. The new Private Client division offers consumers a chance to purchase and bottle whisky from casks from all of these distilleries. Specifically, the company has highlighted the following: sherry casks distilled at Tamdhu as far back as the 1960s, some of the last casks of Rosebank whisky that were produced before the distillery closed in 1993 (Ian Macleod revived and reopened it in 2024), and bourbon and sherry casks from Glengoyne that were distilled from the 1970s to more recent years. Laggan Bay, on the other hand, only opened and began production as of this past spring, so clients would have the chance to purchase barrels filled with new make spirit, which they could monitor as the whisky matures.
