MANILA, Philippines — More than 1,100 hospitals nationwide still do not offer zero-balance billing, Sen. Pia Cayetano said Tuesday, a day after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. touted the program in his fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona).
“More than 1,100 hospitals do not have zero-balance billing,” Cayetano said in her privilege speech, noting that 40 of the country’s 82 provinces do not have a Department of Health (DOH) hospital.
Following her brother, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano’s Kontra-Sona (Counter-Sona) speech, Pia Cayetano said zero-balance billing is currently available in 87 DOH hospitals, four government specialty hospitals and six local government hospitals where the program is being piloted.
