Continuing the drive to check vehicles carrying school children, the Udupi district police booked 43 vehicles for traffic violations and collected fine of ₹30,800. The drive was held in the period between July 20 and July 27.In a press note, the police said, in the period, they checked 204 school buses, 69 mini buses, 65 autorickshaws and 33 cars. As many as 29 vehicles were found carrying students in excess of permitted capacity. In five vehicles, drivers were not wearing uniform.The police also visited institutions and checked 295 buses, 69 mini buses and 34 cars. They checked vehicle documents, safety devices and compliance of child safety norms prescribed by the Government. The drivers and conductors of school vehicles were asked to strictly comply with road safety and child safety norms, while making them aware of the prevailing norms, the release stated.
