RAJANNA SIRCILLATelangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president K. Kavitha on Tuesday alleged that no action had been taken against those responsible for the alleged police torture of eight villagers in Nerella of Rajanna Sircilla district, even nine years after the incident.Ms. Kavitha visited Nerella and consoled the family members of Gopal, one of the alleged victims of the 2017 incident, who died recently following prolonged health issues.She alleged that eight villagers of Nerella were subjected to third-degree torture by the police for protesting against illegal sand transportation during the previous TRS government. The incident had triggered widespread public outrage, she recalled.Ms. Kavitha alleged that the Congress leaders had raised the Nerella incident during the last Assembly elections but failed to provide relief to the victims even 30 months after coming to power.She further alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and local MLA K. T. Rama Rao failed to secure justice for the victims.“Mr. Sanjay owes an explanation on the status of the National SC Commission report on the incident,” she said, and demanded that the government pay ₹1 crore compensation each to the victims, including Gopal’s family, and take stringent action against those responsible. “We will stand by the Nerella victims until they get justice,” she added.
