The Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) said parents and students must lodge complaints before it, along with valid documentary proof, if engineering colleges demand additional fees.

It was found that several private engineering colleges, under various heads such as career development and campus recruitment training and other, were collecting fees over and above the fee fixed by the government.

“All collections, whether directly or indirectly, are unauthorised, illegal and impermissible. The institutions are not entitled to collect any amount other than the prescribed fee. Any such collection shall be treated as capitation fee and appropriate action shall be initiated,” it said.

It further cautioned engineering colleges to strictly adhere to the fee structure. Non-compliance will invite penal action, including a fine of ₹2 lakh towards per student.
