Due to the heavy sea winds, Rameswaram, Pamban and Mandapam fishermen have been banned from going to the sea starting from Wednesday.The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that cyclonic winds were likely to blow at a speed of 45 to 55 kilometres per hour, reaching a maximum speed of up to 65 km/h, and sea waves were likely to rise up to 3.0 meters in the Palk Strait sea area of Ramanathapuram district.Citing this, Fisheries Department officials have warned fishermen not to go to sea in the Palk Strait area.Further, fisheries officials have advised that no fishermen should go into the sea until further notice, and all their fishing boats and fishing equipment should be kept safe.Consequently, fishermen have been urged not to go deep-sea fishing in the Palk Strait sea area of Ramanathapuram district. Permission tokens to go to sea would not be issued on Wednesday from fishing harbors including Rameswaram, Pamban and Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district.
