Coverage of the Commonwealth Games has moved to TNT Sports this year after the BBC was outbid14:01, 28 Jul 2026The Commonwealth Games has returned to screens, but viewers aren't happy. The 2026 Games are being held in Glasgow, marking the 23rd edition of the competition that first started in 1930 as the British Empire Games. The sporting action kicked off last week after a spectacular opening ceremony. A total of ten different sports are being played at the 2026 Commonwealth Games - a significant drop from the 17 sports represented the last time Glasgow held the event in 2014.While hockey and racket sports were among those to be dropped, the likes of athletics, swimming, track cycling, netball, boxing, 3x3 basketball and judo have all made the final list. That's not the only change, as TNT Sports notably acquired the exclusive live television rights to the Games in the UK, ending the BBC's historic 72-year streak of live coverage. While many viewers have complained about the Games not airing on terrestrial TV this year, a number of other sporting fans have taken issue with TNT's specific coverage of the events.Audiences have been left frustrated by the amount of commentary in the studio and the lack of medal ceremonies being aired in some sports."This general coverage of the Commonwealth Games on TNT/HBO is dreadful. Too much chit chat in the studio and it doesn't focus on an event for long," one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).Another added: "It's one thing for TNT to put the Commonwealth Games behind a paywall, it's another to do so and still have such s*** coverage - four TV channels and they're broadcasting the same coverage of the same event on just two of them, and the adverts are so intrusive and so relentless."A third said that it was "a shambles", while someone else commented: "Adverts after almost every race, cutting back to the studio constantly for pointless chat, missed one whole semi-final. I could go on..."A fifth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: "The @tntsports coverage of Commonwealth Games is appalling. Adverts, interviews but very little actual sport. What's the point?"Meanwhile, other fans have shared their praise and excitement at the return of the Games."I love the #CommonwealthGames because it's the only large scale sporting event that people from small countries or large who would never qualify in other events get to compete on a world stage against world class athletes and in the UK we don't realise how important it is outside," one person noted.Article continues belowAnother shared: "The joy of sport," while a third said: "Loving the #CommonwealthGames2026 #swimming. I love that the CG has the para games alongside the main games."Coverage of the Commonwealth Games is available via TNT Sports, HBO Max and Channel 5
