The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company announced that the Cable Car will be out of service for the next two weeks.
Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has temporarily suspended all cable car operations for its annual maintenance shutdown, running from Monday, 27 July to Sunday, 9 August 2026.
The planned two-week closure gives the Cableway Company’s technical and operational teams uninterrupted access to perform critical inspections, testing, servicing, and preventive maintenance across the entire transport system. Key elements of the servicing programme cannot be undertaken while carrying passengers and are vital to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
“Safety and reliability are daily responsibilities at the Cableway Company, and the annual shutdown is a critical part of that work,” said Wahida Parker, Managing Director of Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company. “Visitors experience the Cableway as a short journey, but every trip is supported by a complex transport system, detailed planning, and a skilled technical team.”
The annual maintenance programme varies in scope each year, with components inspected according to their specific time, usage, and condition-based cycles. This year’s service includes routine technical checks alongside specialized work conducted in partnership with an expert team from Doppelmayr Garaventa, who are also providing hands-on training to local technicians.
