Kindness carries them home: Stephen and beloved dog Fireman edge closer to an emotional reunion.
Stephen "Black Lion" Singhini's heartbreaking goodbye to his best friend, his dog Fireman, marked the beginning of an emotional journey that will see the devoted pair reunited hundreds of kilometres from the place they called home in South Africa.
After refusing to leave the country without his beloved companion during the recent anti-foreigner violence, he is now one step closer to embracing Fireman again, thanks to the generosity of strangers, animal lovers and rescue organisations determined to keep the inseparable companions together.
According to St Francis Animal Rescue, Singhini departed on Wednesday for Gqeberha, where he would board a bus bound for Blantyre in Malawi. The gruelling three-day journey will then continue to Lilongwe, where Fireman is expected to be waiting for him.
Once reunited, Singhini and Fireman will embark on yet another arduous journey, travelling by passing trucks for at least another day before finally reaching Stephen's hometown of Karonga, where his family is waiting.
