BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — An Indigenous rights activist here had been acquitted of terrorism financing charges after a court in Pangasinan ruled that prosecutors failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In a June 23 resolution, Judge Crisma Vismanos-Nabua of the Urdaneta Regional Trial Court Branch 73 granted the demurrer to evidence filed by the defense of Sarah Abellon-Alikes, effectively dismissing the case without requiring her to present evidence.
Alikes had been charged under Section 8 (ii) of Republic Act No. 10168 or the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.
The court ruled that the prosecution failed to establish that Alikes knowingly provided funds, property, services or any form of material support for terrorist activities.
