A glimpse of the old asbestos-roofed buildings that will soon be replaced by modern facilities.
The revitalisation of Woodlands Primary School in Pietermaritzburg has officially begun, marking a pivotal turnaround for both the institution and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
After a two-year delay caused by contractual payment disputes work will resume on the new brick structures designed to replace the school’s ageing, asbestos-roofed buildings.
KZN Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer said they spent the past two years turning the department around, and Woodlands Primary School is in the middle of that turnaround.
“We are here to restart the work. We want Woodlands to stand as a testament to our turnaround as a department. We want Woodlands to be our showcase, demonstrating how this department has learned from its mistakes, and how we will now work and how we will now build. As Woodlands Primary rises from these grounds, Public Works and Infrastructure is rising from its troubled past,” Meyer said.
