The project was plagued by severe delays, fueled by a combination of protests, the construction mafia, and payment disputes. However, the project is now seeing a decisive turnaround under the new KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, with a new contractor brought in.
The project aims to replace the current structure with a modern, compliant school, providing an enhanced learning environment.
The contract for the project, awarded at a total value of R43,094,586.11 (including VAT), is set to commence on Monday, July 27, with a duration of 15 months, concluding in November 2027.
