A court in Ranipet on Monday convicted a correspondent and a headmistress of a government-aided primary school in a misappropriation case involving the fabrication of student records to obtain excess government benefits.According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), officials from the Vellore detachment, along with the Inspection Cell, conducted a joint surprise inspection at Vitva Ratna Villa Government-Aided Primary School on August 27, 2012.The inspection allegedly revealed that the school’s correspondent, Karunagara Sanjeev Doss, and headmistress, Alice Thabitha Vijay Kumari, had fabricated school records and related documents by inflating the student strength. While the actual enrolment was lower, the records falsely showed a total of 259 students, including 187 non-existent students.Based on the inflated enrolment, the accused allegedly secured the appointment of six excess teaching posts and obtained corresponding government benefits, including salaries for the additional teachers and noon meal allocations.The alleged fraud caused a wrongful loss of ₹4,67,121 towards teachers’ salaries and ₹2,762 towards noon meal provisions to the State exchequer.Following the investigation, the DVAC filed a charge sheet before the Principal District Judge (PDJ) Court in Ranipet.Delivering its verdict on Monday, the court sentenced Karunagara Sanjeev Doss to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹35,000.
