July 27 (Asia Today) -- South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT has signed an agreement with U.S. semiconductor company AMD to develop computing infrastructure that combines AMD processors with domestically developed artificial intelligence chips.
The ministry said Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with AMD on Thursday to cooperate in AI semiconductors and computing.
The partnership is intended to connect AMD central processing units and graphics processing units with Korean neural processing units, which are designed primarily for AI inference.
The companies will test a heterogeneous computing system that combines different types of processors according to the requirements of individual AI services.
