Toronto police use gene technology to ID remains of women in cold cases ‘after decades without answers’

Toronto police have identified the remains of two women from separate incidents in 1995 and 2004 using investigative genetic genealogy (IGG), including the case of one woman who investigators believe was likely murdered more than 90 years ago.

In May 1995, a woman’s remains — then referred to as the “Danforth Lady” — were found buried beneath a building whereas in the April 2004 case, a woman’s burned body was found in the passenger seat of a vehicle following a collision, Toronto police wrote in a news release on Monday.
