A Special Sub-Inspector of Alangayam Police Station in Tirupathur district was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Monday after he was caught allegedly accepting a ₹5,000 bribe from a motorist. According to the DVAC, the complainant, Manjunathan of Ambur, was involved in a road accident while driving his four-wheeler. Ramakrishnan, the Special Sub-Inspector in charge of Alangayam Police Station, allegedly demanded ₹5,000 to send the vehicle for inspection by the Motor Vehicle Inspector and to release the complainant on station bail. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the DVAC’s Tirupathur detachment and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, officials registered a case and organised a trap on Monday. During the trap, Ramakrishnan was allegedly caught while receiving the bribe amount of ₹5,000 from the complainant. He was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody.
