Consumer confidence weakened this month despite a string of upgrades to economic growth forecasts, underscoring a widening gap in the economy as the artificial intelligence (AI) boom benefits only a narrow group of industries, a National Central University survey showed. The university’s Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development (RCTED) said its consumer confidence index fell to 64.58, down 0.47 points from last month, with sentiment toward stock market investment posting the biggest decline among the six components.“The economy’s growth momentum has been concentrated in a few sectors, leaving consumers cautious about broader economic conditions,” RCTED executive director Dachrahn Wu (吳大任) said. “This reflects a K-shaped growth, in which some industries are benefiting while others are being left behind.”
