OpenAI is expanding its European headquarters in Dublin with 250 new jobs and an 88,000-square-foot lease at the Tropical Fruit Warehouse in the city’s Docklands. The company currently employs around 100 people in Ireland and established its European presence there in 2023. The new roles span engineering, sales, user operations, HR, finance, privacy, and legal. OpenAI said the expansion is driven by “rapidly growing demand from users, customers and developers across the European region.”
The timing is pointed. Meta and TikTok both recently announced job cuts in Ireland, with AI cited as a factor. Ireland has been disproportionately affected by AI-related layoffs across the tech sector. The companies creating the AI tools that eliminate roles and the companies hiring to deploy those tools are operating in the same Dublin postcode. OpenAI won US clearance for a broad GPT-5.6 rollout after weeks of government testing, and the Dublin expansion positions the company to sell that capability across Europe with local staff who understand EU regulation.
