High fuel prices have become one of the most economic concerns for many African countries.

With much of the continent relying significantly on road travel to transport people and commodities, spikes in fuel and diesel prices swiftly spread throughout whole economies, rising living costs, reducing corporate activity, and placing pressure on governments.

Nigeria serves as a recent illustration of this tendency, as sometime during this month the Dangote Refinery hiked loading prices of fuel, even experimenting with the idea of selling fuel to marketers in dollars.

This, of course, sparked panic in the market as experts deduced that the move would have a significant effect on the Nigerian economy as a whole.

One of the most serious repercussions of high gasoline prices is on essential products and services.
