The number of live births in Greece rose slightly in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to data released Monday by the country’s statistics agency.
A total of 15,946 live births were recorded between January 1 and March 31, including 8,184 boys and 7,762 girls, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said.
The figure represented a marginal increase of 57 births, or 0.4%, compared with the first quarter of 2025, when 15,889 live births were recorded.
The number of stillbirths fell by 3% year-on-year, to 96 in the first quarter of 2026 from 99 during the same period a year earlier.
ELSTAT data showed that live births increased in January and March, by 2.6% and 1.2% respectively, while February recorded a 2.9% decline compared with the same month a year earlier.
