Emergency physicians are so burned out that one in 10 is leaving the profession, due to a prevailing sense that “the health care system is broken,” according to a new study.
The study, published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on Monday, pointed to a dysfunctional health system at both the government and hospital levels, unrealistic patient expectations for the role emergency physicians play in their treatment, lack of clinical support and high patient volumes as potential sources of burnout.
