Initially, when order books for the ID. Polo opened in April following its world premiere, the most anticipated version of VW’s new electric compact was missing. Instead of being available from €25,000 as promised, the price list started at €33,795 for the mid-range ‘Life’ trim.
This has now changed: Volkswagen has, as announced a few days ago (DE), opened the configurator for a base version called ‘Trend’. For the first time, this makes the electric Polo available for just €24,995. In addition to Germany, the new base version can also be ordered in other European countries, such as France and the Netherlands.
According to the manufacturer, the ‘Trend’ trim includes a range of driver assistance systems as standard, such as Side Assist and Lane Keep Assist (including Emergency Assist). Also included are features like LED headlights with high-beam assist, a digital cockpit with a 10-inch display, a 13-inch infotainment system, a multifunction leatherette steering wheel, and automatic climate control.
The ID. Polo Trend comes with a relatively small 37kWh LFP battery, which, combined with an 85kW electric motor, offers a WLTP range of 323km. While this may not be ideal for long distances, it is more than sufficient for numerous urban trips on a single charge. If a longer journey is required, the vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 88kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 23 minutes.
