Sally Nugent announced some baby news as she presented BBC Breakfast with Jon Kay07:52, 27 Jul 2026BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent shared some "gorgeous" baby news as she hosted the latest show.‌The TV host was fronting the programme with Jon Kay on monday, July 27 when she announced that former professional footballer Steph Houghton was expecting a baby with her husband, former Bradford City defender Stephen Darby, who has motor neurone disease (MND).‌"Now, some good news we heard over the weekend - former England and Manchester City captain Steph Houghton has announced she's pregnant with her first child," said Sally.‌"She has, of course, worked as a BBC pundit during this summer's World Cup, and is married to former Liverpool and Bradford footballer Stephen Darby, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2018."The presenter said that Steph had shared on Instagram that she and Stephen would welcome their new arrival later this year."Fantastic," Jon chimed in. "Absolutely gorgeous news," agreed Sally.‌Steph and Stephen announced the news by sharing an image on Instagram showing ultrasound pictures, candles and a heart-shaped cake with the words 'Oh baby' on top in icing.The accompanying post said: "Half of You. Half of Me. Our family will soon be three! Baby Darby 2026."‌Fans were thrilled for the couple, with many posting messages on Instagram congratulating them."Wonderful news, congratulations to you both," one person posted in the comments section, while another said that it was "joyous news". "Congratulations to you both, this is the most amazing news," said someone else."Wow, now that's incredible news," said somebody else, as another exclaimed that it was "the best news ever".‌Steph and Stephen tied the knot in 2018, the same year that Stephen retired from football after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.The sports star, who was 29 when he retired from the game, said in a statement at the time: "It is with great sadness that I announce my immediate retirement from professional football due to a recent diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease...
