Dynamo Kyiv has asked UEFA to investigate an alleged incident involving the display of a Russian flag during the first leg of its Europa League second qualifying round tie against Greece’s PAOK in Lublin, Poland.
In a statement published on its official website, the Ukrainian club said a Russian flag was displayed in the stands, prompting a strong reaction from its players, coaching staff and club officials.
Dynamo said the Russian flag is a symbol associated with Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, in which Ukrainian soldiers and civilians continue to be killed, and described its display as a deliberate provocation.
The club called on UEFA’s disciplinary bodies to examine the incident and take appropriate action. It noted that Russian clubs have been suspended from UEFA competitions since the start of the war and said it hoped European football’s governing body would show the same resolve in addressing such incidents in the stands.
UEFA has not yet commented on the request.
