According to the source, residents are demanding transparency and accountability over the alleged sale of assets belonging to the Ondo State Water Corporation, including pipelines, to a private company.
Communities in Owani, Idoani and Afo in Ondo State have threatened legal action against the Ondo State Water Corporation over the ongoing excavation and evacuation of decades-old water pipelines, alleging that the exercise could permanently deprive residents of future access to public water supply.
The threat was contained in a one-month pre-action notice dated July 23, 2026, issued by Rich Templars Legal on behalf of the affected communities and addressed to the General Manager of the Ondo State Water Corporation.
In the letter, signed by lead attorney Sola Ajisafe, the law firm objected to the corporation's decision to authorise Stogmer P. Plus Nigeria Limited to evacuate what it described as "unserviceable" six-inch and eight-inch steel and asbestos cement (AC) rising mains along the Owani-Idoani-Afo-Akungba-Okeoka axis.
The solicitors said they had evidence that excavation and evacuation of the pipelines had already commenced in Afo community, despite their objections.
